Many people wonder why it is that there are so many different churches today and why it is that they all teach differing doctrines.
Jesus taught that it was not his desire that this occur. In John 17:20-21 He prayed to the Father that His followers might be united.
“I do not ask on behalf of these alone {referring to the apostles}, but for those also who believe in Me through their word; that they may all be one; even as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be in Us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me.”
The Iowa Park church of Christ are a group of Christians who wish to worship God in the same manner as did the first century Christians. There are many congregations of the churches of Christ around the nation and around the world whose goal is exactly the same.
We have no central organization; neither did the Christians of the first century. Each congregation is autonomous (self-governing) after the model of New Testament churches. The only leadership that we support is elders and deacons of local congregations (Phil. 1:1). All of these churches have a common cause: to be the church Jesus instituted (Matt. 16:16-18). The New Testament teaches us that our practices and our teachings must be by the authority of Christ, Colossians 3:17.
“And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.”
It is for this reason that we rely upon God’s Holy Written word as the authority for how we serve God and worship Him. YOU can be simply a Christian, a follower of Christ, without aligning yourself with any man-made denomination. We would be glad to help?
